Top 10 Places in Zakarpattia — Must-See
Zakarpattia is so rich that a single week here is barely an appetiser. Here are our 10 best picks — from world-famous spots to lesser-known gems. All notes come from local experience: we live here and guide guests year-round.
1. Lake Synevyr — the Carpathian Gem
The largest and most famous lake in the Ukrainian Carpathians — 989 m altitude, up to 24 m deep. Inside Synevyr National Park. Brown bear rehabilitation centre nearby (5 rescued bears). 34 km from our estate. Best time: May–June or late September.
2. Shypit Waterfall
One of the seven natural wonders of Ukraine — a 14 m cascade near Pylypets village. Open year-round. 24 km from us. Detailed route.
3. Kolochava — Open-Air Museum Village
A small mountain village turned into a museum complex with 10 outdoor museums: "Old Village", narrow-gauge railway museum, Oleksa Dovbush museum, museum of love, museum of the Czech School. Full day with lunch. 25 km from us.
4. Pylypets Chairlift (Mt. Hemba)
The longest cable car in Zakarpattia — 1650 m. Winter: a ski resort. Summer: 15-minute lift access to the Borzhava polonyna ridge. 24 km from us.
5. Drahobrat — the Highest Ski Resort in Ukraine
1300+ m altitude, snow lasts until May. The "little Switzerland" vibe. 80 km from Soimy — far but worth a day trip in winter.
6. Narcissus Valley in Khust
A unique reserve where the alpine narcissus (usually found above 1100 m) grows at just 180 m altitude. Blooms in May. UNESCO site. ~80 km from us.
7. Kosino Thermal Baths
Alkaline-sodium mineral water at 30 °C year-round, several pools, a spa hotel. Beneficial for joints, skin, nerves. ~150 km — far but workable as a day trip.
8. Palanok Castle, Mukachevo
One of the best-preserved castles of Zakarpattia, 14th–17th c. Museum, panoramic views, occasional events. ~120 km — a day with an overnight in Mukachevo.
9. Vuchkove Mineral Geyser
A unique phenomenon — mineral water shoots 1–2 m above ground every 1–2 hours. Each eruption lasts ~10 minutes. You can drink it on site. 17 km from us.
10. Abandoned Village Kuzhbei — Our "Secret" Neighbour
3 km on foot from the estate — a village where no one lives anymore. Old houses, a church, a cemetery, orchards. A miniature Carpathian Chernobyl vibe — photogenic, silent, slightly haunting. Many guests call it their favourite spot.
A 7-day route from our estate
